Police have a confession statement which was taken from murder accused Phillip Paul who is presently on trial for the December 2012 murder of Annandale, East Coast Demerara businessman, Kamal Ramsahoye.
The 38-year-old businessman was found dead in his Droom Street, South Annandale residence with multiple stab wounds about his body. A post mortem examination later concluded that the man died from haemorrhaging and shock due to massive blood loss.
In the confession statement, according to Police Inspector Adams, Paul, also known as ‘Shoelace’ admitted that he and another man broke into Ramsahoye’s Droom Street, South Annandale residence where his accomplice ‘Tall Man’ stabbed the businessman to death, before stealing monies and fleeing to the Line top.
At the Line top, Paul told Inspector Adams that ‘Tall Man’ gave him $60,000.
The police witness was called to testify yesterday when the trial of Paul which continued before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the High Court in Georgetown.
The murder accused who is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Damion DeSantos has pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleges that between December 8 and December 9, 2012 at Annandale, East Coast Demerara, he murdered Ramsahoye.
During his time in the witness box, Inspector Adams recalled that during December 2012, he was attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Vigilance Police Station. He was a Sergeant at the time and was a part of the investigating team which visited the visited the crime scene.
According to the witness, acting on information he caused Paul to be arrested on January 7, 2013 and brought to the Vigilance Police Station. He said that based on a statement obtained from Paul, one Royden Lawrence and Steve Providence were arrested.
The witness added that the two other men denied any participation in the crime, after which Paul requested to speak with him privately. Paul, Inspector Adams said, began telling him a story and he immediately stopped him and informed him of his intention to document same.
The court was told by Inspector Adams that Paul agreed to give a written statement.
In the statement, Inspector Adams said that Paul recounted, “On Sunday (December 9, 2012) I went on the Line top. Then I went through a street where I saw one of my friends who resided in Annandale, Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, and he said we going by a house.
“Tall Man (the friend) raise up the barbwire and we jump in the yard. We see the man (Kamal) and we stash we body. Then we left and went inside and left the door open. We went into the house and hold on to him (Kamal). I hold onto his hand because he was fighting up.”
“Tall Man pulled out a knife and I tell he don’t bore the man and he said the man done see he face and he start stabbing the man and the man fall down in the house. We take out some monies from a draw. Then we left and went upstairs where Tall Man picked up some money from off of a table,” Inspector Adams said Paul told him.
