Rondell Mitchell, a 30-year-old security guard of Friendship, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday made to answer to an attempted murder charge.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge that was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate Courts.
The charge stated that on October 28, 2018 at Meadow Bank Fishery wharf, Mitchell discharged a firearm at Sherwin Anderson, Romario Nurse and Aquacie Harvey, with intent to commit murder.
Police facts stated that on the day in question, about 09:30hrs, the victims were at the fishery wharf when Mitchell took out his cell phone and took a picture of Harvey. Harvey then asked him why he took a photograph of him and Mitchell became annoyed and pulled out a 9mm Glock pistol and fired several shots in their direction.
Harvey was shot to the abdomen in the process and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. At the time of the hearing Harvey is still a patient at the institution.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris objected to bail being granted citing the seriousness of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
Chief Magistrate McLennan remanded Mitchell to prison and further instructed him to return to court on November 28.
