Grove Hi Tech have drawn the bye to the final of the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) Senior knockout tournament. By virtue of advancing to the final, Grove will be one of two teams representing the association in this year-end Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super 16 tournament which will have over Six Million in cash at stake.
The other place would be taken by the winner of the lone semifinal that will be between the re-emerging neighbours, Soesdyke Falcons and Timehri Panthers on Sunday at the Diamond Community Centre ground from 15:00hrs.
In recent play, Timehri Panthers rebounded from being two goals down to defeat Agricola Red Triangle in a nerve racking clash 4-3. Agricola had taken the lead in the 12th minute on account of Egbert Nedd’s goal, the advantage was then doubled by Ronaldo Blair three minutes later.
Given the reputation of Agricola in the sport on the East Bank, their fans felt that they had this one wrapped up but the battle was far from over as Timehri dug in deep to pull off a huge win. Daniel Mochette, Shannon Samnauth, Samuel Steele and Oliver Denny were the goal scorers for the Timehri Panthers. Agricola’s other goal was scored by Byran Lambert.
Soesdyke made light work of Herstelling Raiders trouncing them 4-1. Mark Barker (4th), Tyrone Khan (20th), and Colin McLean with a double in the 29th and 53rd minute sealed the deal for Soesdyke, while Herstelling’s consolation goal came off the boot of Trevon Tucker in the 8th minute.
And Grove Hi Tech continued their menacing form when they walloped Kuru Kururu Warriors, 10-0 on account of a helmet-trick from D. McPherson in the 7th, 19th, 25th and 39th minutes. Mervin Squires (4th & 26th) and Threvon Pluck in the 21st and 69th minutes tucked in a double each whilst there was one apiece for Denzil Crawford (56th) and Akeem James in the 75th minute.
