Two matches with two defeats, conceding 7 goals whilst scoring two of their own is not inspiring by any means but there has been encouraging improvement from the Guyana Under-20 team which will take on Curacao in the third of their four Group F matches when the Concacaf Under-20 Championship USA 2018 continues today, day 8 with a similar number of matches.
Having gone down to Guatemala in their first match 0-4 and then losing a close battle with the Cayman Islands 2-3, the young Guyanese have endeavoured to continue battling until the final minute of their final game which would be against El Salvador on Saturday night.
Head Coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover after yesterday’s recovery session at the IMG Academy here at Bradenton, Florida USA said that in spite of all that has gone on so far, the players are positive and looking forward to today’s match against Curacao.
“Despite the end result on Tuesday which saw us on the receiving end, the mood among the players is upbeat and we are optimistic once again. As the Technical staff we are trying our utmost to keep the players focused on the task of competing and doing so to the best of their abilities.
The recovery session Dover informed was centered around the players who played on Tuesday while those who did not were involved in some speed and agility drills to wake up the muscles.
“We concluded the session with a session dedicated to what we would like to do from an attacking stand point; how high up the field we want to play and the numbers we want in that
section of the pitch once we go forward.
Dover shared that he is of the view that today’s match against Curacao would be a tough one pointing out that it would be a physical shindig given the fact that they have some tall and strong players.
“They are a very fit team and they are also a physical team but as I have said before, we would be optimistic and positive, we will go out and fight as hard as we can to get a positive result.”
Today’s match will kick off at 13:45hrs Florida time which would be 14:45hrs, Guyana time. Based on the weather pattern, the sun would be blazing down.
