Delroy Argyle, the policeman who only days ago drove motor car PWW 5851 in a reckless manner on the Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public road crashing and killing Keiolla Thomas, 27, of Clonbrook, (ECD), drank a poisonous substance yesterday while at work and died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation while receiving medical attention.
This publication learnt from a reliable source, that Argyle was on duty at an East Coast Demerara police station, when it was said he ingested rat poison, and ran out the station compound. He then collapsed. He was picked up and taken to the GPHC, where he later succumbed.
Argyle who is said to be from Supply, Mahaica, ECD, was the driver of the car that crashed and took the life of Thomas while they were heading at a fast rate of speed on the Bee Hive Public Road. A witness, who has a business on the roadway not too far from where the accident occurred said, “The car fly past me, heading fuh Mahaica side. Next thing I hear a loud crash. I don’t know why dem driving so fast”.
The police in a statement said the car was being driven at a fast rate of speed, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with two utility poles, situated on the Bee Hive main road. The driver and Thomas were taken to Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where Thomas was pronounced dead on arrival, while the driver was treated for minor injuries.
He was taken into custody, and a breathalyzer test was conducted. It gave a negative reading for alcohol.
One of the first responders told this publication that Thomas was unconscious when he arrived on the scene; her body was across the two front seats, which left him wondering if she was driving.
The man said when he asked the driver what happened, the driver was just holding his head, and seemed confused.
