The mining town of Linden will soon have its first ever group home for girls. Ms. Herminee Glen-Haywood a resident that once resided at 65 Half Mile, Wismar Linden, will be opening a girls’ home under the name of Herminee’s Organization & Protective Environment.
As the best way to give back to her community, Ms. Herminee Glen-Haywood has seen it fit to create this safe haven.
“It was alarming to know that Linden had the highest percentage of children who were abused. What was more surprising too is that there is a frightening number of families with neglected children”, said Ms. Herminee.
It is from this that Ms. Herminee would base the foundation for her institute.
Ms. Herminee, who now resides in Canada, has decided to build the institute where her home once stood. Ms. Herminee stated that, “instead of having people living in my home who may not properly take care of it, I decided to use it in a better way since myself and family live overseas.”
The non-profit organization, which is already registered and has in place a trust deed is hoping to open its doors in July of 2019 after the home construction is completed. The institute will be funded by personal investments from anyone and fundraising. It will be housing at least 20 girls from the ages 12 to 18 years who were abused or neglected. The institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Protection and the Courts will be in charge of taking in the girls.
Ms. Herminee highlighted that anyone can join the workforce of the institute once confirmed by the foundation. Even though there are already investors in the initiative persons can still feel free to assist.
