A formidable GUYSUCO team, which included three Berbice Inter-County players, beat the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDA) by 51 runs in the Ministry of Agriculture ‘Agriculture month’s’ Tapeball cricket final last Friday on the National Park Tarmac.
October each year is designated Agriculture Month and the Ministry’s Sports Day is one of the activities that are observed in October, but because the Sports Day was held on a Friday this year’s event which included Football, Basketball, Dominoes and Card Games and novelty games like Beer drinking, Shandy drinking, Buns eating, Three-legged race, Sack Race, Lime and Spoon Race, was held last Friday.
With victories over NIDA, GLDA and Hydro Met on their road to the final GUYSCUCO started as favourites against a team which defeated MMA, Fisheries and NDIA in their preliminary matches.

Before the cricket began there was the playing of the National Anthem, a Prayer, remarks by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Miss Delma Nedd and the Director of Sports Christopher Jones who took the salute at the March past, lighted the torch and bowled the first ball.
GUYSUCO batted first in the 10-over game and former Guyana U-19 batsman Adrian Singh who scored 107 in a 207-run opening stand with former Berbice youth player Troy Matheson against GLDA, was bowled for a duck in the first over before another ex Berbice player; Keon Sinclair skied a catch to point after hitting a couple of sixes.
However, Konal Mangal played some enterprising shots in an aggressive 60 to take GUYSUCO to 142-6 in 10 overs before restricting GRDA to 92-8 when their 10 overs expired as GUYSUCO, who had earlier won the one Lap run with the Torch, were crowned Champions.
