The Bush Lot ground was set on fire by 17-year-old MVP Afrucia Gentle as she continued her stunning form with an unbeaten 109 against West Berbice as she followed up scores of 89 run out and 55 not out her last two innings to give East Bank an emphatic 60 runs victory in the latest round of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) U-17 female Franchise League played yesterday at Enterprise on the East Coast of Demerara and Bush Lot in West Berbice.
Essequibo crushed Upper Corentyne and Lower Corentyne humbled East Coast in the other matches played yesterday.
The powerful Gentle, who also plays Tennis, got support from Shamya Daniels who chipped in with 15 not out as East Bank rattled up 187-1 in 20 overs. Tia Issacs took the lone wicket to fall for West Berbice, who were restricted to 127-9 when their 20 overs expired. Six was the most runs scored by a batter, while extras top scored with 121 runs. Shamaya Daniels grabbed 3-25 and Gentle took 2-37 to move to seven wickets in the tournament.
At Enterprise, Essequibo beat Upper Corentyne by 31 runs after reaching 78-2 in a game reduced to 10 overs due to early morning showers.
Lisa Charles top scored with an aggressive 40 from 14 balls with eight boundaries as Britney McAllye took one wicket.
Upper Corentyne struggled to 47 from 10 overs with no batter passing five.
Analesia D’Aguiar (2-8), Onicia Stoby (2-11) and Lalitha Patterson (1- 8) conspired to bowl their team to victory.
In the second match at Enterprise, East Coast won the toss and scored 69-3 in the game which was reduced to 15 overs. Shemika Edwards finished unbeaten on 22, while Shanaza Majeed was also there at the end on 14. Skipper Lafona Gilgeous grabbed 2-8, while Nivaneen Ramnauth took 1-15.
Lower Corentyne in reply, raced to their total, scoring 70-6 in 11 overs, Gilgeous top scoring with 12 to win by four wickets. Tillaya Mohamed captured 2-12 while Shemika Edwards, Sarah Amin and Vinita Ballkishun picked up a wicket each
The action continues today with double headers set for DCC in the City and Enterprise on the East Coast. East Coast face-off with West Berbice in the first game before West Demerara play Upper Corentyne at Enterprise, while Essequibo oppose Georgetown and Lower Corentyne battle East Bank at DCC. The first match at each ground starts 09:00hrs.
