A brutal unbeaten 42-ball 110 from 16-year-old Jeremiah Scott lit up the Malteenoes ground on a gloomy day to power MSC to a win against Diplomats in the GCA’s NBS 40-over Second Division cricket competition yesterday in match reduced to a 20-over affair.
GYO beat DCC by three wickets at DCC, GCC defeated Ace Warriors by five wickets at GYO, while the game at GNIC between GNIC and UG was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
At MSC, in a game which began at 14:00hrs due to leaky covers, Scott arrived at the crease with his team on 62 and tore the hapless bowling to all parts of sluggish ground in his murderous unbeaten 110 from 42 balls and decorated with nine sixes and seven fours to power the home team to 196-5 in 20 overs.
The pugnacious Scott, whose flaying blade spared no bowler, added 134 in an unfinished sixth with stand with 16-year-old Tuen Hicks (13) after Marcus Watkins had clobbered five sixes and two fours in 46.
Andre Foster, who struck 20 in his final over, finished with 3-36 for Diplomats who reached 75-9 in 15 overs since their last batsman could not bat due to injury and only Mortimer King who hit a four and a six in 17 and opener Anthony Fraser who hit a six and a four in 16, reached double figures.
Wayne Bollers (2-2), Watkins (2-20), Nkosi Barker (2-19) and Ntini Permaul (2-21) did the damage for MSC who lost both of their openers for ducks before Foster removed Barker (5), Watkins and Shaquel Mosley (1) to start the Jeramiah Scott show.
At GYO in a match which stared 30 minutes late, a 50-run opening stand between Rawle Enmore (20) and Mortland Ward (28) helped Ace Warriors to 142 all out from 30.5 overs.
But after Bernard Bailey (2-24) removed Ward only Davindra Lall (20*) and Miguel Parks (19) reached double figures as Gavin Singh (3-27) and Chetram Persaud (2-17) were also among the wickets for GCC who raced to 143-5 in 12.3 overs.
Guyana Jaguars’ Regional Super50 selectee Renaldo Ali-Mohamed hit six sixes and five fours in a quick-fire 62 from just 17 balls before he was bowled with victory 12 runs away.
After Martin Pestano-Bell (5) was given out caught behind off his pads at 17-1, Marlon Persaud (17) and Timothy McCalmont (35) carried the score to 59 before Persaud was bowled. But Ali-Mohammed and McCalmont batted their team to victory.
At DCC, Leon Allicock (3-28) and Darshan Persaud (2-16) were the main wicket-takers as DCC were bowled out for 106 despite 40 from former Guyana U-19 leg-spinner Steven Sankar.
Persaud led the way with 41 as GYO reached 110-7 in 21 overs as Xaiee Smith (2-23), Qumar Torrington (2-25) and former West Indies U-19 left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd (2-20) were the main wicket-takers for DCC in a losing cause. (Sean Devers)
