Two years after a North West man was charged with attempting to murder his brother, he was back before a City Magistrate, this time for allegedly chopping his father to the head with a cutlass.
Twenty-seven-year-old Seon Obermuller appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where an unlawful wounding charge was read to him.
Obermuller pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on August 12, 2018, at 42 Miles Backdam, North West District, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Keith Obermuller, his father, with intent to maim, disfigure or cause him grievous bodily harm.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor, Neville Jeffers stated that on the day in question, the Obermuller and his father were consuming alcohol together when he (Obermuller) turned to his father and told him “ two big men can’t live in one house” and picked up a cutlass and dealt his father a chop to his head.
The injured man fell to the ground in an unconscious state and was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted a patient.
The Prosecutor made serious objections to bail being granted to the defendant citing the serious nature of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
The Prosecutor added that the defendant was charged in 2016 with attempted murder after he tried to kill his brother and wounded another individual.
The Chief Magistrate after listening to the Prosecutor’s facts remanded Obermuller to prison.
The unrepresented man was instructed to make his next court appearance on November 6 when he will appear in the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court where the trial will be conducted.
In 2016, Seon Obermuller appeared before the same Magistrate where he was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Kenrick Obermuller with the intent to commit murder.
It was also alleged that Seon Obermuller unlawfully and maliciously wounded Lyndon Hall. The then 25-year-old was not required to plead to the two charges, which were based on incidents that occurred on March 19 at Eclipse Top, North West District.
