The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has sent a five-person team to Netherlands to undergo well maintenance training.
The company had recently received, among other equipment, a regeneration vehicle sourced from Dutch company, Q-Flow International.
The team will undergo three weeks of training on how to operate this vehicle, and to reduce the effects on customers during well regeneration exercises.
Q-Flow International will be conducting the training, of which the practical component will involve the use of such a vehicle by the team. This team includes Operations Director, Dwayne Shako; Well Maintenance Engineer, Kerene Gordon; Maintenance Manager, Peter Barkoye; Driver/Expeditor, Sean Moore and Craftsman, Timothy Sutton.
After training is completed, the vehicle will be shipped to South America, with a second round of training set to take place in Suriname, according to Dutch Newspaper, Tubantia.
GWI is poised to deliver much improved service and maintenance of its 141 wells, countrywide. Dwayne Shako is quoted as saying “Guyana is a water-rich country, but we must be able to guarantee sufficient clean water and this means that all wells must be in excellent condition to be able to extract enough water. Our country and the company have invested a lot for this. They rely on us now.”
Engineer, Kerene Gordon, the team’s only woman member, said “Work is done very structured in the Netherlands – I love it. And the way in which maintenance takes place in Guyana, is basically the same. Only the methods here are much more developed. We will soon apply in Guyana what we have learned here.”
