Exciting action is anticipated at the Lusignan Golf Course on the East Coast of Demerara when the venue hosts the Guyana Open Golf tournament this weekend.
Some 100 golfers from various countries will battle with their Guyanese Counterparts in what is touted as the biggest tournament to be held in Guyana so far.
Players will vie for supremacy in the 0-9 flight of which Guyanese Avinash Persaud is the defending champion, 10-18, 19-28, senior and females. Among the countries participating are Argentina, Colombia, French Guiana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, USA, Canada and St. Lucia.
Among the Guyanese set to battle are Avinash Persaud, Dr. Joaan Deo, Shanella Webster, Christine Sukhram, Max Persaud, Pur Persaud, Mohanlall Dinnanauth, Mike Mangal, Jai Paul, Kevin Dinnanauth and Manauf Arjune. Jai Suknanan and Roger Rajkumar are expected from Canada.
There will be a closing ceremony on Sunday evening, immediately after the end of the tournament, where prizes will be distributed to the winners and the Lusignan Club champion for 2018 will be honoured.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, Dr. Deo, who recently won the female category in the Suriname Invitational, said she is confident of doing well in this tournament. “This year I worked on my game a lot, that’s the reason I was confident of excelling in Suriname and I have been playing consistently so far this year. I will give it my best shot,” she stated, adding that she is looking forward to a successful tournament.
Fans are encouraged to ensure that that obtain free complimentary raffle tickets with which they can win prizes.
