The Annual National Draughts Championship is scheduled to commence on Sunday November 4th at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The A and B classes would be played in the opening matches this weekend. This year the two competitions would take a different format, where there would be a combination of the two classes. Then next Sunday November 11th the Open International 100 square match would conclude the Championship. All the games would be played on a round robin system.
Entrance fee is $300 per player and snacks would be on the house. Registration starts at 10:00am and game time is 10:30am sharp. Players who are travelling from out of town and far flung areas are asked to make contact with 614-6671 and would be given up to 11.00am. No entrance would be allowed after that time.
Mr. Ramesh Sunich, Manager of Trophy Stall of Bourda Market has already donated three trophies for the B class winners. Other contributions came from Noble House Seafood, Atlantic Marine Supplies Eccles, Puran Bros. Disposable Services, Brans Security Service, Colours Boutique and Attorney at Law Elias Gentle. Rubis Bel Air would sponsor the 100 square tournament next weekend and Travis Lyken Manager of Sivert Design on Russell Street will give one hair cut to the A class champion.
Present national A class champion Mr. Jiaram would be keen to defend his title, while Mark Brathwaite present holder of the 100 square crown will try to retain it.
Senior and junior players nationwide are invited to participate in the championship.
