Independence A and Cornelia Ida registered victories when the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) President’s Cup 50-over tournament continued on Sunday last.
At Bridge ground, Independence A defeated Sawpitt by nine wickets. Sawpitt batted first and were skittled for 40 in 14 overs with Zakair Khan scoring 13; Jagnarine Etwaroo picked up 3-11 and Ewart Samuels 2-13. In reply Independence ‘A’ scored 44-1 in eight overs. Ceenauth Bisessar made 17 not out and Samuels 13. The game was reduced to 35 overs due to rain.
At Wales, Cornelia Ida trounced Windsor Forest by nine wickets. Windsor Forest managed 110-9 off their reduced quota of 30 overs, taking first strike. Avinash Ganesh got 18 as Shameer Khan grabbed 4-18. In response, Cornelia Ida made 111-1 in 16 overs. Akshaya Persaud struck an unbeaten 66 while Richie Looknauth made 34.
La Grange All stars beat All Youths B at Canal Number Two ground.
The competition continues on Sunday with Independence B facing Rising Stars at Bridge Ground (A. Ramgobin and Chaitnarine Persaud), Meten-Meer-Zorg A playing Cornelia Ida at Wales (M. Ernest and A. Persaud) and Independence A taking on Sportsman Club at Canal Number Two (A. Singh and Nandkumar Shivsankar).
