DEAR EDITOR,
Permit me to address an article published in yesterday’s edition about ex- and never- again president Bharrat Jagdeo advocating for the imprisonment of President Granger in his handling of sugar funds for workers in that industry.
This individual is bold beyond the bounds of acceptance. This is more than eyepass! I am amazed at the boldness and temerity of Jagdeo to even allow the word jail in anything he says – the Universe may just be listening in.
Jagdeo somehow forgot to tell his supporters that the woes of this industry did not appear three years ago, but instead, a once viable industry experienced its present condition of unsustainability under his watch. The present woes of sugar began under Jagdeo.
I remember spending time as a young boy with relatives at Wales and my cousin’s husband Uncle Oscar, supporting his family adequately while working at the Estate. Jagdeo systematically, either by neglect, or by design, destroyed sugar. Now he’s pointing fingers.
To refer to a characterization by Freddie Kissoon, only in a “Failed State” would this individual be allowed to run around pointing fingers or offering advice after his horrible performance in office. His party, PPP/C, must also shoulder the blame but won’t, for this reprehensible leader. They have allowed him to become a feared dictator, a little Caesar who fiddled like Nero, while Guyana proverbially burned like Rome did.
Jagdeo is the little kid who leaves with his ball because he was not allowed to bat even after being stumped out. Guyana can ill afford to continue down this road. If we as a country must join the community of progressive countries on this planet then we must leave race-based and divisive politics behind and accept each other as Guyanese, period.
This coming from a person like me, who came close to dying from a bomb being hurled into my home in 1963 – as a young child I escaped death by seconds. To this day I know it had to be divine intervention that saved my life.
Jagdeo and those like him should be harnessed before they are allowed to irreparably harm our beloved country.
Suffice it to say, I am not a member of the PNC, I am a concerned Afro Guyanese, disgusted with politicians who are allowed to wrap citizens around their fingers. Wake up and stop being hoodwinked by people like Jagdeos. They must all be held to a higher standard. They work for you, and not the other way around.
Respectfully,
Claudeston Massiah
