The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCCA) on September 18, last, in an attempt to provide managerial, technical and operational cooperation in the field of aviation between Guyana and Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
The MOU which was signed by the GCAA’s Director General Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Egbert Field, and Director- President of the Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC – Brazil) Jose Ricardo Pataro Botelho De Queiroz is responsible for enhancing the relationship between the two civil aviation regulatory bodies (Guyana and Brazil) of through knowledge exchange, technical cooperation, and best practice in developing, modernizing, operating and maintaining the civil aviation systems of both countries.
Aside from developing the level of cooperation between Guyana and the neighbouring country the MOU take account for the development of a State Safety Programme (SSP), Safety Management Systems (SMS), safety surveillance and oversight, aircraft certification, personnel licensing, aerodromes, and airworthiness.
The agreement also makes provisions for training of personnel, institutional strengthening, human resources management and regulation of air transport as well as economic regulation.
Officers of the GCAA and ANAC are expected to share their expertise in the various disciplines of civil aviation to provide training and/or technical visits either to Brazil or Guyana and develop studies to benefit both countries in the field of civil aviation.
The MOU was signed as a part of the fourth World Aviation Forum of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (IWAF) in Fortaleza Brazil.
