Royston King, who appeared to testify at the commission of inquiry into City Hall yesterday, was confronted by Minerva Hossanah during the recess, for funds she alleges are owed to her company, ‘Garbage Eaters’.
Hossanah was heard pleading with King for the outstanding payments. She related to him that she was pregnant at the time, but still worked to earn. She was heard telling King: “Remember I de pregnant, right? The baby walking now” to which King responded “There’s nothing I can do now”. She pleaded with him, asking “Who I have to talk to? Is there a lawyer or something?”
In an interview with Kaieteur News, Hossanah said that she is the Director of Garbage Eaters, who City Hall allegedly owes over one million dollars for services rendered from August to November 2017. She said that her company was working for City Hall until Puran Brothers’ Disposal were reappointed to work for the city, which resulted in the termination of her company’s services. Hossanah said that she was forced to procure funds from overseas to pay her workers, because she did not want them to go without.
She further related that efforts to procure the outstanding payments from City Hall have proved futile, because the officials have them “running upstairs, downstairs” to no end.
Hossanah said that, for a while, she was not aware of the current Commission of Inquiry, but hopes that she could testify about her company’s issue.
The Commission of Inquiry into the affairs of the Mayor and City Council is headed by the Local Government Commission. Its purpose is to examine, advise and report on irregularities of the administration, its operations, and the managements of its financial affairs. The Chairman appointed to lead these proceedings is Retired Chancellor of the Judiciary, Justice Cecil Kennard.
