The 2018 GCB Female Franchise Under-17 T20Tournament took off on a brilliant start with West Demerara and Lower Corentyne gaining victories over West Berbice and Upper Corentyne respectively.
As the action commenced over at Albion ground, Lower Corentyne totaled an acceptable 93 for 2 in a reduced 15 overs match after winning the toss. Openers Ashmini Munisar and Shenia Simon took their team to a 52 runs partnership scoring 22 and 18 respectively, while Amesha Samaroo and Niveena Ramnauth were the not out batters scoring 9 and 3 respectively. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Shanaya Fraser was the only bowler to take one wicket for 20 runs, while the other wicket was a runout.
In reply, Upper Corentyne struggled to reach their total scoring 66 for 8 in their reduced 15 overs. Shanaya Fraser top scored with 17. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Ashmini Munisar picked up 3 for 14, while she was supported by Niveena Ramnauth who took 2 for 5. Lower Corentyne won by 27 runs.
Meanwhile over at Wales Ground, in West Demerara, West Berbice won the toss and choose to bowl first. West Demerara then scored 77 for all out in13.3 overs from their allotted 20 overs. Ariana Buckan top scored with 8, while Jamaica Simon scored 5. The most instrumental bowler was Renata Liverpool who grabbed 4 for 15, while Lisa Isaaca and Tamara George took 3 for 20 and 2 for 10 respectively.
In reply, West Berbice failed to accumulate the required total and only managed to score 63 all out from 18 overs. West Demerara Bowling saw Ariana Buckan as the most destructive bowler grabbing 5 for 18, while she was supported by Varuni Pitambar who took 2 for 10. West Demerara won by 14 runs.
There will be four matches today, West Berbice will face Georgetown at DCC ground at 9:00hrs, while Essequibo will face East Coast at Enterprise. In Berbice at Albion Lower Corentyne will face West Demerara at 13:00hrs and Upper Corentyne will play East Bank at 9:00hrs.
