The Berbice Cricket Board organised Sueria Manufacturing Ltd sponsored Mogu Mogu Inter-Secondary School 30 Overs Tournament has been creating waves in Region Six. The Tournament started with nineteen teams and has reached the final stage with Lower Corentyne Secondary and the New Amsterdam Technical Institute booking their places in the Tournament Final.
Nineteen Schools in Region 6 are in one Championship, while nine schools in Region 5 are in the second Championship. The two top schools in Region 5 and Region 6 Championship would then clash in the third Championship for the right to be crowned the overall Berbice Secondary School Champion.
The nineteen Region 6 Secondary Schools that participated in the Tournament are Skeldon High, Line Path Secondary, Tagore Memorial, Upper Corentyne Technical Institute, Black Bush Secondary, Central Corentyne Secondary, Manchester High, Winifred Gaskin Secondary, Corentyne Comprehensive, Lower Corentyne, Port Mourant, J.C. Chandisingh Secondary, Canje Secondary, Berbice High School, Vryman’s Erven Secondary, New Amsterdam Technical Institute, New Amsterdam Secondary School, Berbice Educational Institute and Tutorial Academy.
New Amsterdam Technical Institute defeated J. C. Chandisingh Secondary in one of the Semifinals, while Lower Corentyne Secondary easily got pass the Upper Corentyne Technical Institute in the other semifinals. New Amsterdam Technical Institute amassed 183 all out in 28.3 Overs with skipper Garfield Benjamin topscoring with an impressive 83, while National Under-15 left arm spinner Jeremy Sandia took 4 for 26 in an impressive spell, J. C Chandisingh Secondary in response were bundled out for 93 in 18 Overs with only Guyana Under-15 batsman Jonathan Rampersaud offered any resistance with 30 as Berbice Under-19 left arm spinner Keith Simpson claimed 5 for 14. Simon Naidu claimed 2.
At the Port Mourant Cricket Club Ground, Lower Corentyne defeated the Upper Corentyne Technical Institute by eight wickets. Upper Corentyne Technical Institute was bowed out for 126 in 22.5 Overs with Afsear Hussain 27 and Arvin Lall 22 topscoring. Leon Cecil 3 for 26 and Jeremiah Felix 3 for9 bowled well for Lower Corentyne Secondary, who in reply reached 128 for 2 in 19.5 Overs. Leon Cecil 42, Tameshwar Mahadeo 30, Damien Cecil 23 not out and Vijay Gopilall 15 not out were the outstanding batters for Lower Corentyne Secondary.
