With what many are calling fun and energetic, Guyanese turned out in their numbers in observation of the breast cancer awareness “Pinktober Walk/Run/Cycling”, event yesterday.
Thousands of persons converged at the Durban Park, Georgetown venue from where they commenced the 5k, 10K run, cycling and walk in support of Cancer Warriors, while raising awareness.
The event which began some time around 7:00hrs from Durban Park, Georgetown along Vlissengen Road turned back and continued along Vlissengen Road to the park. The walk started off with a warm up exercise after which cyclists paved the way along the route and were followed by the differently-able.
They were supported by the large number of persons walking or running.
So great was the belief and support for the cause that persons from across workplaces and professions also volunteered their time to aid in this grand event. The route was paved with rangers to give out refreshment and to generally cheer on the participants along the way.
After the walk participants were treated to a warm down of zumba dancing, food, and drinks. Persons could also be seen purchasing GTT handsets and SIM cards all adding to the promotion of the event. From the “Pinktober Special Package”, worth $3,500 the sum of $500 was donated toward finding a cure for breast cancer and further awareness activities.
GTT, in collaboration with the Guyana Cancer Foundation, underwent a month-long campaign aimed at raising funds for the fight against breast cancer and cancer in general.
Pinktober has seen support from the Mexican Suarez Brothers Circus, GBTI Bank, ExxonMobil, 93.1 Real FM and other agencies.
Their unrelenting support to all Pinktober-related events shows their commitment to joining in the fight against breast cancer and using their influence to help.
