Two men were yesterday remanded to prison for the possession of an illegal firearm.
It is alleged that on October 12, last, Jason Augustine and Kevin Bobbsemple on Croal Street Georgetown, had in their possession one black and silver 9mm pistol without being holders of a firearm licence.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In an application for bail, Augustine’s attorney stated that her client lives in Wismar, Linden, and that the firearm was found in a car that was occupied by other individuals and was not found on his person.
Attorney Glen Hanoman, who represented Bobbsemple, in his application, stated that the gun was found in a bag in the back seat of a vehicle.
The Police Prosecutor objected to bail given the seriousness of the offence. Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman then remanded the duo.
The court heard that on the day in question, acting on information, Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks intercepted motorcar PNN 5156, which at the time was driven by Bobbsemple with Augustine in the passenger seat. A search was conducted and the weapon was found in the back seat of the car.
Bobbsemple provided the court with a caution statement, while Augustine admitted orally to having the gun.
Hanoman argued that the statement provided by Bobbsemple should favour his client.
The men were remanded to prison and ordered to make their next court appearance on November 12.
