Behavioural Change Communication (BCC) organization Merundoi, is set to premiere its drama “The Helpline”—with an all Guyanese cast and production team—tomorrow at the National Cultural Centre (NCC). The production is also set for local television.
The “Helpline” Project is being produced by Youth Challenge Guyana (YCG), Family Awareness Consciousness Togetherness (FACT) and Merundoi Incorporated under the aegis of The European Union.
It seeks to increase the supply of protective services for people at risk of suicide through a collaborative network of Civil Society Organizations, currently providing health and social services to communities across the country.
The Helpline Project has protective service centres across the country to accommodate counselling, life skills, support groups and case navigation to improve the existing psychosocial support systems in targeted vulnerable communities in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10.
Social workers and counsellors are deployed to reach targeted populations who are experiencing emotional distress and other mental wellness issues that could lead to self-harm and other harmful circumstances.
The project encourages people to utilize emotional support services advertised via the radio serial and television drama, mass media, and social marketing which are also intended to change perceptions and beliefs about services.
As the only Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) Non Governmental Organisation (NGO ) in Guyana with US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved BCC edutainment methodology, Merundoi works towards strengthening communities, especially young adults and vulnerable populations, to take ownership of their attitudes, actions, and behaviours, and to work together for their mutual benefit.
Its mission is modeling, fostering and reinforcing healthy choices and lifestyles through innovative public education, facilitating positive behaviour change, utilizing the creative arts and mass media platform. It facilitates attitudinal and behaviour change related to good health, environment, economic, social, and governance practices.
