Forty-two year old Krishna Singh was yesterday charged for allegedly breaking and entering the property of Attorney-at-Law Pamela De Santos.
It is alleged that the defendant on October 10, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown broke and entered the property of Pamela De Santos and stole a water pump, valued at 12,000, a length of hose valued at $5,000 and two tarpaulins with the value of $10,000.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge but claimed that on the day in question he went to pick ‘pear leaf’.
He denied stealing the objects and stated: “How de rass I can fetch all them things?”
The defendant further stated that, he doesn’t want to waste the courts’ time and he doesn’t have any money to pay bail.
Chief Magistrate Anne Mc Lennon then attempted to tell the defendant that from his explanation his plea should be converted to not guilty but the defendant wouldn’t have it and protested that he maintains his guilty plea.
Police Prosecutor Richard Harris then told the court that on the day in question the defendant made his way into the premises of the attorney-at-law and stole the articles.
A report was then made by the virtual complainant to the Brickdam Police Station and the defendant was subsequently contacted by the police and told of the offence and later charged with Simple Larceny.
After listening to the prosecutor the magistrate fined Singh $25,000 and in failure to pay the fine, eight weeks imprisonment.
