A 44-year-old conductor of Roxanne Burnham Garden was yesterday charged with assaulting a man that he alleged is a tout.
The charge against Mark Waldron alleged that on May 17, 2018 at Water Street, Georgetown he unlawfully assaulted Randy Monroe.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge. After an explanation, his plea was changed to not guilty.
Waldron explained that he and the virtual complaint were involved in an argument the day before the incident.
It is alleged by Waldron that Monroe who at the time was a tout got upset with him because he asked him not to “fill his bus.”
An argument escalated and Munroe attacked him with a knife and ripped his shirt. He then ran away.
Waldron told the court that on the day after the incident he saw Monroe and armed himself with a wood and was about to attack him.
However, the defendant claimed that he was stopped by fellow drivers and conductor before he could have assaulted the virtual complainant.
The prosecutor told the court that on the day in question at the 45 bus park at around 6:00 hrs, the defendant armed with a wood dealt the virtual complainant a lash to his left arm.
The matter was later reported and the defendant was charged.
Nevertheless, the prosecutor had no objections to bail and Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman released the defendant on $50,000 bail and with a request for him to return to court on October 29.
