Pacesetters basketball club were involved in both matches that were bounced on the Burnham hard court on Sunday Night as play continued in the Rainforest Water/Malta Supreme/Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) league.
Pacesetters 89-85 Republic Bank Nets (1st division)
In the feature match of the night that tipped off at 20:30hrs, Pacesetters found success after playing to a close-shaved 89-85 win over Republic Bank Nets despite a stellar 31-point performance from Antwan Austin on the losing side.
Michael Turner (18), Dave Causway (15), Nathan Saul (14) and Jermaine Hamilton (10) all got into double figures in the good team victory for Clement Brusche’s men.
Pelham Doris (17) and Hodyah Stewart (16) assisted Austin well as Nets kept a tight leash on Pacesetters with the score never surpassing a two point deficit during the end of the first three quarters. However, Saul sank a late three-pointer to help Pacesetters outscore Nets 27-22 in the final period of play to eventually come out victorious.
Plaisance Guardians 72-62 Pacesetters (2nd division)
In the opening game, which was contested in the second division, the usually verbose Brusche would’ve been quieted after his side suffered a 12-point loss at the hands of East Coast Demerara’s Plaisance Guardians basketball club that is going through a purple patch.
Like Guardians’ win rate, Pacesetters’ Troy David’s good run of form continued and he netted on Sunday when he netted a game-high 23 points which was tossed up along with three three-pointers, in a losing effort.
Plaisance Skipper, Terrence Daniels (18), led from the front yet again with valuable support from Delroy Critchlow (11) and Hillman Bovell (10).
Guardians led the game throughout the quarters despite being outscored in the final period 28-19, in the comfortable 72-60 win
Basketball will resume tomorrow at the Burnham Court with two matches in the first division featuring Plaisance Guardians versus Kobras in the opening game at 18:30hrs followed by Colts against Eagles at 20:30hrs. (Calvin Chapman)
