Linden’s Michael Anthony stopped the clock at One hour 19 Minutes 14.36 Seconds to win the feature School Boys and invitational 35-lap race when the 14th edition of the Hand in Hand Mutual Fire Life Insurance 11-race National Park Cycle Meet was hosted yesterday.
Anthony outsprinted fellow Linden rider Rastaff O’Selmo who had to settle for the 2nd place with Geron Williams (2017 winner), Alanzo Ambrose, Junior Niles and Alex Mendes rounding out the top six riders in a race that saw O’Selmo leading for the first three laps before he was sucked in by the top six riders.
Thereafter, the lead was shared among the leaders until the final 300m or so when Anthony who paced himself well, decided to take the attack to his colleagues. O’Selmo seemed to be a good challenge in the final 300m but Anthony prevailed.
Niles took four of the eight sprint prizes on offer while there was one for Anthony, O’Selmo, Williams and Adealie Hodge who defeated Briton John, fresh from his World Championship sojourn, in the juvenile 10-lap contest.
Hodge won in 28 Minutes 54 Seconds from John with Emanuel Gayral settling for third. Hand in Hand Mutual Fire Life Insurance Marketing Coordinator Ms. Shafeena Juman in remarks to the participants before the presentation expressed thanks to race coordinator Hassan Mohamed for affording her company the opportunity to be identified with the event which allows the company to fulfill its corporate responsibility.
Ms. Juman informed that the company would continue to support the event whilst congratulating all the cyclists for coming and taking part. Mohamed, in brief remarks extended gratitude to Ms. Juman and Hand in Hand for their investment over the past 14 years, noting that many national cyclists have benefitted from their support over the years.
