The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) has served notice on Shamnarine Narine, of Guyana Tractor and Equipment Company (Guytrac) for unauthorized construction at Plot ‘HN’ Industrial Reserve, Plantation Ruimveldt.
Narine was ordered to cease all activities (Development/Construction work) with immediate effect under the Town and Country Planning Act.
The notice was signed for and received by an excavator operator who is in the employ of Narine.
The plot was being used to construct a two-storeyed building, scheduled to house a gas station and convenience store on the ground floor, offices on the first floor and to install four fuel pumps and three underground tanks for kerosene, gasoline and diesoline.
The gas station was rejected on the basis that the site is still not suitable for such a development and the proposed means of access (Plumbaggo Street and the roadway) are minor streets.
The reasons for these objections were that the site cannot be accessed from Mandela Avenue, which is the main thoroughfare, and the location cannot provide a means of ingress and egress.
CH&PA also raised concerns about the destruction caused to the road and road shoulders by heavy-duty equipment used by Narine to drive piles into the ground.
It was noted that residents of the Shirley Field-Ridley Square, South Ruimveldt, petitioned against the area being used to construct the gas station, convenience store and offices.
