Dear Editor,
I must compliment Annalise Humphrey for the brave attempt espoused in her letter captioned, ‘AFC’s lists are fit and proppa’. She claimed that, “the AFC has always enjoyed widespread support across Guyana and therefore has no need to resort to trickery or fraud.
“If anything, Lakram should look closer to home, as it is public knowledge, which party’s history is tainted by trickery and electoral fraud in Guyana’.
Let me ask this question: What ‘widespread support across Guyana’ does the AFC enjoy? This is a figment of an over-active imagination. There are 18 NDCs and three municipalities in Region Six and the AFC could only manage through fraudulent and deceitful means to be able to contest one NDC in totality and a couple of constituencies in two other NDCs.
One would assume that if the AFC indeed has massive support in Berbice then they should have been able to contest in all the NDCs not a mere 16% show through deceitful and fraudulent means.
The AFC is ‘dead meat’ and no amount of embalming and cosmetology can transform and breathe into it a semblance of life at the upcoming LGE. The AFC is now mummified. The letter writer should have provided some statistics to back her baseless claim of nationwide support. Can she do that? I guess not, unless it is fabricated.
Furthermore, I want to wager that even in the three NDCs where the AFC fraudulently misrepresented its support, they will receive an embarrassingly profound trashing at the hands of the Opposition.
My party’s history was not considered when the leaders of the AFC piggybacked themselves into power by coalescing with the APNU of which the PNC is the dominant force. Now the AFC is put to the test to really prove that it deserves 40% of the Government and all they can come up with is more evidence massive dwindling support.
Has the letter writer suddenly become Rip Van Winkle about my Party’s past? My Party has arisen from its past like the proverbial Phoenix but the AFC will never rise again and you can take that to the bank.
What is a total disappointment is the fact that the AFC’s ‘Elder’ has failed to address the fraudulent activities of its candidates. In fact, it seems that the AFC Leaders support this.
I must applaud the leader of the Opposition for what he did with regards to Wakenaam. He had said that if the PPP’s list was proven fraudulent, he will withdraw his Party from contesting the constituency. It was proven fraudulent and he stuck to his words.
As a true statesman, he kept his promise but what has Mr. Nagamootoo done? He has remained silent and irrelevant as is customary. What is Mr. Ramjattan doing? Why is the Guyana Police Force not conducting an investigation especially about what transpired there with the CPG Liaison Officer who is allegedly at the center of the fraudulent signatures.
This man is using state resources to engage in political activities. He is using a Government 4×4 and motorcycle to do dirty political works for the AFC. Why is the AFC using State resources? What are your leaders doing? Should they not emulate what the Leader of the Opposition has done?
The AFC is far from being ‘fit and proppa’ and should gracefully bow out of the LGE and call it a day.
Yours sincerely,
Raj Lakram (Lakram Singh)
NDC Councillor #52/74 NDC
