Police have arrested the prime suspect in the shooting of dog food vendor, Shane Cooper, and for the robbery of two females at Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt on September 24, last. The victims positively identified the suspect during an ID parade yesterday.
The suspect who is a 20-year-old welder of James street, Alboystown, was being sought by ranks of “A” Division after being identified out as the a lone gunman, who robbed and shot Cooper, while he was carrying out his trade at the corner of Aubrey Barker Street, and Stevedore Housing Scheme access road, North Ruimveldt, at the time.
According to the police, Cooper was standing with two young women, when an unidentified motorcar came to a halt some distance away. An unidentified individual wielding a firearm, then exited the vehicle and demanded that they hand over all valuables.
The gunman fired two shots at Cooper before he relieved the two women of their cell phones. He then sped off in the waiting motorcar. Cooper, of North Ruimveldt, was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) where he underwent surgery for gunshot wounds sustained to the abdomen and leg. His condition at the time was listed as stable but serious.
Due to diligent investigation by CID ranks, they were able to apprehend the suspect and had the victims identify him, investigators are compiling the case files for legal advice, and charges are to be laid soon.
