Cyon Saunders, a 40-year-old clothes vendor was crushed by motor lorry GRR 6081 on the Good Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) around 03:30 hours on Saturday morning, while he was walking on the said road.
Saunders of lot 101 Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, was walking in the vicinity of KSM Investments on the Good Hope Public Road when he suddenly crossed into the path of the motor lorry owned by China Railway First Group Guyana Inc. and was being driven by a 28-year-old resident of Lot Little Diamond East Bank Demerara.
On seeing Saunders walking into his path, the driver immediately applied brakes but Saunders came into contact with the front of the motor lorry. He fell to the ground and was ran over by the motor lorry.
When Kaieteur News arrived on the scene, the police were in the process of their investigation and the body was being removed by the undertakers. This publication learnt the driver of the truck, after seeing the condition of the deceased, abandoned the motor lorry and fled to his residence where he was subsequently arrested by the police.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and the results showed a 0% alcohol level in the driver’s
blood stream.
Saunders’ mother positively identified her son’s body around 15:00 hours yesterday. His wife who lives in French Guiana, is making preparations to come home to make funeral arrangements.
