Dear Editor,
I note various news reports, which have announced attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes opening a law office in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Hughes currently represents ExxonMobil in Guyana.
His wife Cathy Hughes is a member of the Cabinet- the very Cabinet that is charged with the government’s oil and gas secrets.
The perception of a wife sharing portions of her daily routine with her husband is not far-fetched. Could Cabinet’s secrets come into the hands of ExxonMobil?
I would urge government to be sensitive to conflicts and would expect that Mrs. Hughes would not be privy to any of the government’s plans for oil of gas. Anything short would be unacceptable.
