Both quarterfinals of the 2018 Limacol football tournament that were competed on Thursday evening at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Carifesta Avenue saw an East Coast Demerara’ based club being booted from the tournament.
In the feature match, Dellon David (4th), Jermain Fraser (75th) and Sunil Logan (79th) each netted one goal as Santos Football Club (SFC) had a comfortable win against Buxton Stars in their clash.
Meanwhile, in the opening fixture, Pouderoyen Football Club (PFC) that has now played to a 2-1 result in all four of their games thus far in the competition, were on the winning side of the three-goal result against Mahaica Determinators, which had defeated semifinalists Police FC in their opening group round-robin game.
Kacey John (17th) and Dwayne St. Kitts (38th) both netted during the first half to give Pouderoyen a healthy lead heading into the second half before Dellon Charles pulled one back for Mahaica in the 59th minute.
However, not long after Charles scored, Pouderoyen’s forward, John, engaged in a ‘time wasting’ tactic by taking the ball to the opposing corner flag, shielding it on every given opportunity as his team successfully ‘parked the bus’ to hold out for victory at full-time.
Pouderoyen’s skipper, Marvin Griffith, marshaled his troops well from his centre back position and he expressed pleasure with the win while noting that he will enjoy a another 2-1 victory to make it five in a row in their semifinal clash which will be played against Santos tomorrow at 18:00hrs.
Meanwhile, Riddim Squad will match skills with Police FC in the feature game that will kick off at 20:00hrs. Admission to the venue will cost $500. (Calvin Chapman)
