Mr. Editor,
The GWMO of which I am a member has not held a General Meeting to elect a President since 2015. Neither has there been an audit of how they are spending their members’ money or the various Government contributions they have received. This is in violation of the Friendly Society Act and the GWMO Constitution.
The illegitimate President according to the GWMO constitution is also serving as a Board member of a Government Agency.
The GWMO is currently operating under false pretense. There are very few if any legitimate miners remaining in the organization. The current executive is a sham. They are only collecting money from donors and basically vacationing with it; basically flying all over the world, going to various fancy hotels and fancy restaurants doing absolutely nothing and representing absolutely nobody,
The GWMO no longer represents Women Miners. It has strayed from the vision and actions of its founding members. It has abandoned the job of the organization which was to represent women in mining, help or rescue the vulnerable in mining and create opportunities for small miners etc.
Most of the current members do not own a dredge nor have they ever been involved in actual mining, the executives do not know how to operate a mine and have never worked at a mining camp.
Since 2015 there is nothing tangible that the GWMO has done. It is now just an entity on paper, with their executives sitting on Boards and collecting money from all angles without accounting for it. The GGDMA is endorsing this organization with full knowledge that the current executive has no miming interest nor knowledge.
We call on the Government to have a look into this organization and to compel it adhere to the laws of Guyana and its Constitution.
