A single mother of Rose Hall Town has received her interest-free loan from the Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc to get her business, “Serenity’s Slice of Heaven” going.
Trudy Sinclair, 33, was given a loan of $200,000 by the Berbice based NGO which was heartened by the woman’s story. She was denied loans from the local banks but it did not stop her drive to be independent for the sake of her children and herself. The loan she said will be paid back on her own terms which she has already discussed with the founder of the NGO, Suresh Sugrim.
Sinclair told the media after receiving the loan that she feels blessed and privileged as a woman from the Corentyne area, “in a sense that too many women in the Corentye are not given opportunities where they can make something of themselves”.
The mother of two girls, aged 10 and six, further added that the loan will jumpstart her catering and food business which she plans to take to Rose Hall Market and the Port Mourant Market.
The optimistic business driven woman said that it is her desire to be a role model to women who are single parents and also to her two daughters,
“I will continue to be an example to single parents [and] youths to show that there are opportunities. There are opportunities; you just have to work hard and stay motivated. The road is never easy, it is long and hard but if you can endure it, there is victory in the end”.
Sinclair also recently completed a cake decorating class and a computer technology class at the mission.
The NGO has also been allowing persons to access free cosmetology, Mathematics, English, balloon decoration and Computer technology classes with the aim of empowering persons.
