Dear Editor,
The suffocating racial divide that is endemic in our country can be addressed. Currently, many PPP voters who relied on the sugar industry are suffering due to the PPP’s mismanagement of the sugar industry. And while this is not the PPP’s only offence during their time of governance, their constituents still blindly cling to them. President Granger has the unique opportunity to show the PPP constituents that his administration will not abandon them in their time of need.
President Granger, by helping PPP supporters, will distinguish himself and his government by viewing its citizens as Guyanese rather than by their ethnicity or race. A similar opportunity was squandered by the PPP when they had the opportunity to address and help the people of Linden who took drastic measures to voice their plight.
Had the PPP shown concern and taken steps to address the Lindeners’ plight, they might have won some of their hearts and minds and given them reason to change their party affiliation. One must remember that some Guyanese are prudent and grateful to the government who remembers them in their time of need. Moreover, President Granger’s willingness to help the people whose demise was precipitated by PPP’s bad governance will remain a truth that showcases President Granger’s government as one that is dedicated to serving all Guyanese.
Sincerely,
Stanley Niamatali
