Information has come from Fort Island residents, Region Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara) that a task force was established by the Region Three administration. It is alleged that this task force got a contracting company from the Essequibo Coast to rehabilitate parts of the Sea defence system on the island.
The work started from June-August 2018. Residents are claiming that the work done by the contracting company on the island is being sub-standard because water continues to pour through the rehabilitated sea defence system causing the very residents to get very scared and concerned.
It is also alleged that the contracting company at the moment does not pay a resident of Fort Island $50,000 for work done. Fort Island residents are calling on the Region Three administration and the task force appointed to stop having unfit contracting companies doing work on the Island and that monitoring and evaluation must be conducted during and after work is completed by any contracting company so that the payment of taxpayer’s dollars is justified.
Fort Island residents are calling on the relevant authorities to put the contracting company from the Essequibo Coast on the radar and to quickly visit the island to conduct assessments on the work done by that contracting company.
Residents also claim that they are anxiously awaiting the assessment team.
