The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) historic Raffik Construction 100 Balls tournament for teams in the Lower Corentyne area has re-started after a lengthy delay due to the weather. Kildonan Cricket Club, Chesney and Courtland have advance to the next round of the knockout competition after registering victories over Belvedere United, Jai Hind and Fyrish, respectively.
The match between Albion and Tamarind Root was postponed due to Albion’s participation in the BCB U-19 semifinals.
At the Fyrish Ground, Courtland spearheaded by an attacking 62 from Jamal Cort (3×4 7×6) reached 173-9 from their 100 balls. Seon Crandon scored 39 as Imran Ally 2-38 and R. Ramcharran 3-17 bowled well for the home team.
Fyrish in reply were bolwed out for 155 in 19 overs, losing by 18 runs. Y. Chinapen 38, J. Ali 32 and Reaz Khan 32 were the principal scorers. J. Johnson 2-2 and Eon Gibson 2-20 were the best bowlers for the winning Courtland team.
At the Chesney Ground, 2008 Stanford T20 star Imran Khan rolled back the years to spearhead the home team to an easy 28 run win over neighbours Jai Hind Cricket Club. Khan struck a composed 50 and together with S. Latchana 62 not out led Chesney to 157-6 from their allotted 100 balls. R. Mangali claimed 2-18 from three overs while Adrian Singh, a former Guyana U-15 Captain took 2-19 from three overs. Jai Hind in response was bowled out for 129 in 15.3 overs despite Mangali returning with the bat to top score with 46. Medium pacer Khan took 4-19 and veteran Narine Deonarine 2-21 to lead Chesney to the semifinals.
At the Hampshire Ground, Kildonan defeated Belvedere United by three wickets. Belvedere United scored 126-6 while Kildonan reached 130-7 from 18.1 overs to advance. Kildonan would now play Rose Hall Town Bakewell with the winner going on to play Courtland in the semis. Chesney would play the winner of the Albion and Tamarind Root match.
The tournament is being organised by the BCB as part of its effort to promote cricket at the grass root level in the Lower Corentyne area. A total of sixteen teams started the tournament which is being sponsored by Contractor, Mohamed Raffik of Williamsburg, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice.
