The final of the Berbice Cricket Board/Magic Moments T20 Tournament in the Upper Corentyne area would be played this Sunday at the Cut and Load Ground. No. 48 Challengers booke dtheir place in the final after defeating No. 64 Fighting Star while No. 72 All Stars and Skeldon Community Centre earne dteh right to contest the lone semi final after defeating Cut and Load Cricket Club and Scottsburg United Cricket Club, respectively.
These two teams will face off at 09:30hrs with the winner going on to play No. 48 Challengers in the final. Playing at the No. 73 Ground, Scottsburg United Cricket Club was dismissed for 108; Rajendra Sooknandan and Alex Burnett each topscoring with 15 while extras contributed a healthy 30.
Kelvin Maynard 3-8 and Junior Blair 2-16 were the best bowlers for Skeldon which reached the winning target, ending on 109-4 from just 10.4 overs. George Davis led with an unbeaten 20 with Edward Julian hitting 19 not out. Rayman Lowenfield 2-17 and Adrian Jeffrey 2-22 bowled well in a losing cause for Scottsburg United.
No. 48 Challengers held their nerves to defeat arch rivals No. 64 Fighting Marines by 15 runs. Challengers made 111 all out in 19.2 overs; Munesh Lalu 27, Devin Baldeo 18 being the principal scorers. Devindra Budhoo 3-14 and Leonard Sandy 2-28 bowled well for NO. 64 which in reply fought to the end before they were dismissed for 96 with two overs remaining.
Leonard Sandy 26 and Devindra Budhoo 16 batted well but excellent bowling from Jaipaul Baijnauth 3-4, Balram Samaroo 3-11 and Samie Dharoop 3-32 led No. 48 Challengers to the final.
Earlier in the day, No. 72 All Stars broke the hearts of the supporters of the home team, Cut and Load to register a close four run win. No. 72 were bowled out for 100 in 19.2 overs; Sanjay Deschan 22, Mahendra Bhoj 17 and Trishan Ramdass 11 being the main scorers.
Abdullah Ajib 4-16, Ramesh Persaud 2-7 and Imram Khan 2-17 were the best bowlers for the home team. Cut and Load in response was bowled out for 96 in 19 overs. Ramesh Persaud topscored with 18 while Ramesh Joseph contributed 16.
The bowlers responsible for No. 72 All Stars’ victory were Pradeep Gobin 3-13, Trishan Ramdass 2 for 15, Taleshwar Baichand 2 for 17 and Wayne Garrett 2-26.
BCB President Hilbert Foster is urging all fans in the Upper Corentyne area to turn out at the popular Cut and Load Ground in the No. 72 Village for Sunday’s final which would be the first of four under the popular, Magic Moments brand.
The Upper Corentyne final would be followed by finals for Second Division Teams in the Lower Corentyne, New Amsterdam/Canje and West Berbice areas.
