Dear Editor,
I believe you are unaware of the true nature and causality of the power outage, and consequences thereof on the people of Region # 2. It’s now two weeks into the nightmare that has engulfed our potential. The nightmare that allows for less than two hours of electricity per 24 hours that GPL has attached a wonderful term of ‘load shedding’
To begin with, Minister David Patterson will never be forgiven for this catastrophe, his incompetent decisions that have led to this nasty state of affairs.
Aside from the constant drug shortages, President David Granger’s willful refusal to support the backbone of Guyana (Rice) and all other Ministers of Government ignoring the plight of Essequibans. We now have no electricity!!
What is worse is the fact that the PPP/C while responsive, has been a toothless poodle. Where is your bite? When will you stand up and fight? Prove to your stronghold that you still have might! But do you? Or is it for political gain that you wish for us all to suffer at this administration? What the APNU needs to understand is that this government has done so poorly that nobody wants them to serve another term (I use the word serve lightly because they have only served their own wants and not the needs of the people). But why would we vote for the PPP/C? Exactly, so we will end-up in a position where all educated individuals will refuse to vote.
Back to the electrical woes, the people are suffering. The pump stations do not have back-up generators, which means that we have no electricity or potable water! Imagine a population in excess of 50,000 individuals plus a significant amount of Venezuelan refugees without access to electricity, potable water or proper healthcare. What should be mentioned however, is that we Essequibans are resilient, we are calm and steadfast, we are not going to be like the Lindiners that burnt down a school, but we will not be as numb as the Berbicians that stood by while the government took the food out of their mouth. This is a promise to the APNU government, no longer will Region # 2 stand idle as this government destroys our lives in the name of the government’s plan: “a good life for themselves.”
Yours truly,
An anguished resident
