According the Secretary of the Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI) Anand Sanasie, this year’s 50-overs Franchise League, which was delayed due to prolonged rainy season and unavailability of grounds, is scheduled to start immediately after the CPL Finals is completed in Trinidad on September 16.
“If the Guyana Warriors don’t qualify for the semis we will start the League immediately after the play-offs which conclude in Guyana on September 12. We want our best players to play in the Franchise which will be used to select the Guyana Jaguars for the Regional Super50,” Sanasie informed.
The Regional Super50 starts on October 8 and will be played in Barbados where the preliminary rounds in Zone ‘B’ and semi-finals and final will be contested. The final is set for October 28.
Zone ‘A’ will be played in Trinidad where the Jaguars will join Canada, T&T Red Force, Windies ‘B’ and Windward Volcanoes.
In group ‘B’ the Barbados is joined by USA, Leewards, Jamaica and the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC).
In order to be eligible for next year’s World Cup, players will have to make themselves available for the Regional Super50.
Sanasie said that the CGI is responsible for selecting the eight Franchises with input from the various areas.
“Another issue is the grounds and of now we have Port Mourant and Albion in Berbice and Enmore and Lusignan on the East Coast. The pitch at Tuschen is being relayed,” disclosed Sanasie.
The Eight teams are Upper Corentyne, Lower Corentyne, West Berbice, East Coast, East Bank, West Demerara and Essequibo. (Sean Devers)
