The body of a partly decomposed, unidentified male that was found along the Hampshire shore on Sunday at approximately 5:30 am is suspected to be that of a 49-year-old man from Suriname.
According to a recent report from the Suriname media, Widprakash Garib was involved in a boat mishap in the Suriname waters two Sundays ago.
The report stated that Commewijne Police recieved a report of the boat accident and upon investigation it was revealed that a speedboat had sailed in close proximity to the bank and collided with an obstacle. The collision resulted in two persons who were sitting on the deck of the vessel falling overboard. One of the men who fell into the waters disappeared while the other was saved.
Still missing is Garib, however Suriname authorities had launched a search.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commander Lyndon Alves told reporters that an individual contacted him from Suriname and informed him of the boat mishap. He states that the individual will be traveling to Guyana today to have a look at the corpse that is currently at the Bailey’s Funeral Home, to determine whether it is Garib.
The police had stated that the body was believed to be Caucasian, but the missing Garib is said to be of East Indian descent. Investigations are ongoing.
