The importance of attaining a sound primary education cannot be understated. With this in mind, a Guyanese oil and gas company, Century Tamara Energy Services Inc. (CTES), on Wednesday last, distributed almost 200 bookbags with school supplies to four schools in Regions 4 and 6.
The back-to-school drive started at Winfer Gardens Primary, and was attended by officials of the company, headmistress of the school, teachers, and parents among others. The attendees welcomed the company’s initiative and expressed gratitude for the “timely contribution which will make the lives of many parents a bit easier,” as they prepare to send their children out for the new school term which begins next month.
The next stop was Golden Grove Primary; this location was packed with children from the village who were eager to receive backpacks. Parents were also in attendance. They mentioned how much of a relief this gesture would provide to their pockets since most of them have not purchased school supplies as yet.
The team then travelled to Berbice and made their presentation of supplies to students of the Rose Hall Estate Primary. This is the school the Country Manager of the company, Mr. Sheldon Davis attended, so it was especially nostalgic for him being there, to present it to the institution which helped to mould him.
He implored the students to take their education seriously since they are the future of Guyana. He noted too that CTES will continue to play its role in the education sector and will also empower women and girls. The last stop was at Rose Hall Town Primary on the Corentyne.
CTES provides unique solutions to stakeholders in the oil and gas sector. The company’s vision is to enable Guyanese to adapt to the emerging sector by ensuring full domestic participation and contribution to the economic growth. CTES has been in operation for close to a year now and is located at 213 Camp Street, Georgetown. Its main technical partner is Century Group out of Nigeria.
Some of the services the company provides include are exploration, production, marine, ports/ terminal development and management, operations and maintenance of FPSOs.
