Dear Editor,
All decent individuals at some point in their careers are confronted with the question of their actions in terms of loyalty versus seeking personal gain/aggrandizement or being dishonest/evil in an organization. I believe I found the best working answer to this question and it was provided by Barbara Res, Former Trump Organization Executive for 18 years, on the “CNN Newsroom Show”with host Brookie Baldwin, on August 24, 2018. Barbara, when asked by Brookie: how much does loyalty run in an organization, responded: “ I think that is something worth thinking about, and yet you are loyal to a person for many reasons ; but not for reasons that have to do with, you know, for anything that is illegal or even immoral or unethical. I don’t think that anybody has a right to demand loyalty for that kind of reason. Certainly, loyalty in terms of working together, doing the right thing, keeping secrets, when need to be kept, being there running business properly. Yea, those are the kinds of things I think loyalty should be about; not telling someone to do something wrong”.
This is in reference to the breaking news about Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer, Allen Weisselberg, whose involvement with Trump’s finances are deep, and granted immunity by federal prosecutors for providing information about Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen.
Questions about morality, ethics and locality are critical in the way an individual do business and the kind of lives they want to live. It is a soul-searching experience for those who witnessed individuals, who have done improper, and sometimes bad or inconsiderate actions, succeeded in reaching the top of organizations. But there is one consolation to the truly loyal employee; at the end of the day a moral, ethical and consummate worker sees every day as bright – ultimately contended and happy; and when old and retired, the psychological benefits are enormous.
Thank You,
Faizul Rahim
