Essequibo Businessman Thakoor Persaud is still in shock and disbelief after he was informed on Sunday afternoon that his only child had died.
Yogeeta Persaud, 22, met her demise Sunday while on a medical outreach in Peru.
Thakoor Persaud said that his daughter departed their Golden Fleece home about a week ago, to embark on a medical outreach in Peru and was supposed to return this Thursday.
The grieving man said that instead of having his daughter return, he received a call from the Co-coordinator of the medical outreach, who claimed that his daughter had collapsed and died.
Persaud further told Kaieteur News yesterday that his daughter appeared to be healthy, and that he is not aware of any complications she may have suffered from. He said, however, that the post mortem examination was completed yesterday, and that he would soon have to travel to Peru to uplift those results.
In the meantime, the young scholar will be missed by her grieving friends and families. Yogeeta Persaud’s popularity soared in 2013, when she topped Guyana in the CSEC exams with 18 grade ones. Because of her outstanding achievements, she was later recognized as the most outstanding CSEC performer in the Caribbean. Her performance earned her a scholarship to the US, where she later pursued and completed a medical course in Biochemistry.
According to her father, the medical outreach was just another stepping stone towards her future, since it was supposed to gain her entry into a medical school.
Yesterday, the outpourings of grief and admiration for a young woman who had a promising future were very evident on social media.
