Dear editior
Almost two weeks have passed since the Guyana United Artists (G.U.A) presented directly by hand a letter to the Ministry of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport, for Dr. George Norton and the Director of Art.
G.U.A Executives visited the Ministry three times last week and have not been successful in meeting with either the Minister or the Director of Art.
We requested in our letter the Ministry’s support to send one representative of the G.U.A who would be the recipient of the Guyana Cultural Association Brooklyn, 2018 Award, to deliver our goodwill message and to use the occasion to procure markets for our Art Works. We have since made contact with Galleries in Brooklyn and the state of Oregon. Ours is a goodwill mission to promote internationally via the Visual Arts, Peace, Love, Unity.
In order to raise awareness of our activity, we are going to display selected paintings and sculptures in front of popular locations to raise funds for the trip. Therefore, if you see us in the streets support our artwork and let’s contribute to making Guyana and the world a better place. Our organization the Guyana United Artists (G.U.A) has spent 22 years on the front-line defusing an unhealthy political climate in the aftermath of each General Elections since 1997, Exhibitions titled “Conflict Resolution”, “In the Line of Duty” , “Unity In Diversity”, “Continental Destiny”, were all held at the National Gallery Castellani House in a tension filled atmosphere.
Yours faithfully
Desmond Alli
