Cabinet last week “noted” the construction of a long-overdue police station for La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara. The housing scheme is one of the largest in the country and there have been growing complaints of crime in the area. The construction has been awarded to A. Ograsein and Son for $53.09M.
Also given the green light is the rehabilitation of the east block of the doctors’ quarters at Waterloo and Quamina Streets. The Ministry of Public Health project is for $50M and has been awarded to Memorex Enterprise.
Several other projects were also noted by Cabinet, according to Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, during the post-Cabinet briefing on Monday.
There will be an extension of the Warapoka Primary School, Mabaruma, Region One. That $16.4M contract is being awarded to A. Nazier and Sons Contracting Services.
There will also be an extension of the Port Kaituma Primary School (Annex), in Region One. The Ministry of Communities project is for $17.4M and is being awarded to International Import Supplies.
There will also be a $15.7M contract for the extension of the Sacred Heart Primary School, Mabaruma, Region One. That project is for $15.7M and the contractor is AAV Ragoobeer General Construction.
The Ministry of Education is moving also to rehabilitate the electrical infrastructure of three dorms of President’s College, Region Four. That $23.5M contract has been awarded to A Ograsein and Son.
For the excavation of drains and canals and the construction of access dams and hydraulic structures at Buxton, East Coast Demerara, the Ministry of Agriculture has asked for an increase of $15.1M on the contractor.
The contractor had been awarded the $120M project, which has now gone up to $135.3M.
The aging MV Makouria is due for docking and rehabilitation. The almost $70M project will be undertaken by the Guyana National Industrial Corporation.
The Ministry of Agriculture is also moving to acquire a motor grader. Supplying the $54M piece of equipment will be MACORP Inc.
Two refrigerated trucks are also being procured for the sum of $36M. Massy Industries has been awarded the contract.
For the supply and installation of block-making machines and training of beneficiaries in Regions 4, 6, 9 and 10, for the Ministry of Education, contractor Gaico Construction and General Services will be delivering to the tune of $17.1M.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security is looking to conduct a comprehensive study of security in indigenous communities, with the aim of improving it. A consultancy contract for US$129,000 has been awarded to The Consulting Group.
For the supply of uniforms in Regions 1, 7, 8 and 9, the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs will be dealing in several lots.
Lots 1, 2, 4 and 5 for the sum of $19.9M will be handled by S P Worldwide Import Export; Lot 3 for the sum of $5.3M has been awarded to Ravina’s International; while Lot 6 is earmarked for award to R. Sookraj and Sons for $4.6M.
For the supply of janitorial supplies, Ministry of Health, Metro Office and Computer Supplies will be delivering $12.3M of selected items, while a contract for $31.9M will be awarded to New GPC Inc.
