Dear Editor,
For months now I have been watching a local businessman almost bend over backwards for the Coalition Government, even after being against the Coalition before the 2015 Elections. I am speaking about the owner of E-Networks, Mr. Vishok Persaud. I even saw the recent support Mr. Persaud gave to the Coalition Government for the National Toshaos Conference.
Then on Wednesday – July 31, 2018 – I saw the notice from office of Minister Catherine Hughes.
Her Ministry put attention on the publication of a Notice to Mariners Number 15 (2018) by the Maritime Administration Department indicating that maritime surveys shall be conducted by two vessels “on behalf of E-Networks Inc. as preparatory works for subsea cable laying … within the Guyana Maritime Zone.”
Her Ministry then made it clear that E-Networks has no licence for the laying and landing of a subsea cable system. Editor, I want to say that all may have now been revealed.
Is this licence the reason that Mr. Persaud is suddenly supportive of the Coalition Government? If, Mr. Persaud shifted his support from the PPP, which helped him so much, how can the Coalition Government trust him?
I want to say that I am proud of my Coalition Government for not falling for this ploy by Mr. Persaud. I want to call on my Coalition Government to ensure that, in every action, it ensures that it does not collect support from persons in exchange for something.
Our country cannot move forward like this. I also want to call on President David Granger to ensure that Minister Catherine Hughes stands her ground and no deal is cut in breach of what are the procedures that must be followed.
Yours Sincerely,
Alvin Hamilton
