Dear Editor,
Maybe Guyanese teachers never saw the sinister move by David Granger and his men to have various ministries except The Ministry of Labour. How amazing and subtitle. These are the same men who as opposition members nailed the PPP for not giving workers what is due. During the 2015 election campaign the coalition offered glorious promises to create a honeymoon effect.
Teachers were promised an increase in their salary by the APNU-AFC coalition movement. However when our fellow Guyanese sat in the “seat of power” they forgot the educators who help influence the destiny of this nation.
The task force has presented what teachers should get but maybe Guyanese teachers are enemies of the state so the government chooses to disrespect them by failing to give them what is due.
Teachers need to remember that when GTU hinted at a strike David Granger called them and made favourable promises. However, Mark Lyte has been joking for too long; PPP disrespected teachers and this government is doing the same.
If Mr. Lyte wants to prove he is a man of steel he has to call on his teachers to strike. Remember GTU military men only understand one language and that is extreme aggression. Teachers need to rise above loyalty to party for, at their core they ought to be wise enough to recognise that Guyanese politicians love to walk on their supporters.
I hope that teachers in Region Two recognise that they will only be respected when they shut down the schools. Many times when teachers were asked to strike the huge PPP support base of teachers in Region Two refused to do this; but who is looking foolish now.
Mr. Lyte if the government cannot offer a reasonable proposal by August, be MILITANT and shut the schools down.
Yours respectfully,
Sachin Singh
