Following his explosive performances at the just concluded CAC Body Building and Fitness Championships this past weekend in Mexico City, Mexico where he placed 2nd overall after winning gold medals in the Masters and Middleweight classes, USA based Bruce Whatley became the first Guyanese to win an IFBB Elite Pro Card.
This is Whatley’s second such card having also won a Pro Card with the National Gym Association of America (NGA) in 2016. With the IFBB Elite Pro Card, Whatley has said goodbye to CAC competition and will now be focused on doing bigger things.
He spoke with Kaieteur Sport about his achievement: “I’m extremely happy with my performance at this year’s CAC competition, not only because I won two gold medals and my IFBB Elite Pro Card but because I prepared for this competition in less time than I would normally do for any competition.”
Whatley also indicated that he was nursing a knee injury which had held up his training in the early stages of preparation. “It curtailed my preparation to work my legs the way I would have liked. My chiropractor, DR. Sims continued to work with me and it got better and better. But as I’ve said many times before, champions don’t complain, they just do what has to be done.”
As a result of this, Whatley said that his preparation time was shorter but he was motivated to work even harder towards doing well, “And I believe the results speak for itself.”
He thanked the many persons for supporting him in his biggest achievement to date as a bodybuilder.
”But more importantly, I continue to give God the glory for his continued grace in allowing me to not only compete but do so, successfully.”
