A porter who allegedly stole over one million dollars worth in vehicle parts from three persons, yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Twenty-six-year-old Ronaldo Benn was slapped with two robbery charges and a break and entry and larceny charge.
The first charge alleged that between July 6 and July 7 at One Mile, Port Kaituma in the North West Magisterial District, he stole a quantity of vehicle parts worth $520,000, property of Steven Wong.
It was further alleged that between July 10 and July 17 at Fitzburg Port Kaituma, in the North West Magisterial District, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Shanel Profit and stole two fuel pumps worth $700,000, property of the said Shanel Profit.
The last charge stated that between June 30 and July 1 last, at Train Line Port Kaituma, he stole a quantity of vehicle parts worth $190,000.
Benn denied all the allegations after they were read to him by the Magistrate.
Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing the serious nature and prevalence of the offence.
The prosecutor added that if bail is granted to the defendant, the police will have a difficult time in locating him, citing that he give conflicting addresses to the court. The prosecution objection was upheld and the defendant was remanded to prison.
He was instructed to make his next court appearance on August 6 at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate Court.
